Well...many of my wonderful colleagues are heading back to work after hopefully, an enjoyable and rested summer. To kick off the school year, I've written two new activities and uploaded them under my section for 'Therapy Ideas for Adolescents'. However, for those of you following this blog, here are those activities for quick access:
Simon's Cat Videos
Looney Tunes Quotes (Activity)
Looney Tunes Quotes (List)
I was inspired to write these lessons based on a love for animation. The Simon's Cat videos are just plain cute and appealing to all ages. They are created by Simon Tofield, an English animator, who captures the mischievous behavior of cats in creative short films. I have used many of these videos in therapy as a tool to teach a variety of skills and they are a huge hit!! Although the link to the videos are on the activity sheet, here is the link to the website for the videos, merchandise, and background information behind the animation:
As for the Looney Tunes activity, I came across the quotes on wikiquote. I pared down the list of quotes for the activity and kept my favorites as well as the quotes that best suit the purpose of the activity. It's amazing to me how much of the dialogue written in the Looney Tunes cartoons was figurative and may be lost on many of the students we service. The Looney Tunes cartoons are timeless and it's worth revisiting these characters with a new generation. Weaving them into a therapy lesson as a resource makes it all that more fun!
Lastly, don't forget to periodically visit my boards on Pinterest (my link is on the home page). I continually add iPad app recommendations as well as therapy resources and websites for both children and adults.
Have a great school year!!
